Blue Ribbon Sushi (Japanese)
Bryant Park Grill A good place near Grand Central and a great garden of course!
Cafe d’Alsace If you haven’t noticed yet, I am a chocolate addict. Well, try the chocolat tart with the sel de Guerande on top. It is spectacular! And to make it light, add a little oven-warmed muenster with a salad. Life is good - April 2007
Cafe Lalo What’s the deal? A nice decor, the charm of a cafe a la Francaisebut otherwise, be patient for a table, and be ready to participate in your next table’s conversation! - March 2006
Cafe Sabarsky Play the Austro-Hungarian Dame and get yourself a Sacher Torte after a visit of the Gallery. Unique Germanic feel in the Upper East Side - March 2003
Chola Probably one of the best Indian places I have been to. Nice decor, great food and decent prices. Try those dishes with ginger, almonds, cashews and other tasty bits. Lamb should also be on your list - April 2007
City Hall Very good Asian food - Chinese and Vietnamese mostly - to share. Not the cheapest place in Chinatown.
Craft Overdone! One of the fancy addresses near Union Square
Daniel’s. Ah well, merci Monsieur Boulud for the exquisite meals at your place. It was simply perfect. For a treat, I recommend it - January 2002
Ginger The name says it all! - March 2006
Gulluoglu: the real borekas as if you were in Istanbul and so nice to find a good place to eat in midtown Manhattan. The treat is of course the dessert menu, mostly for the pistachios lukums and the pistachios pastes - they are all simply delicious and are made in Turkey before flying to the US! - December 2009
Ichiro (Japanese)
Ikeno Hana (Japanese)
Industria Argentina Probably one of the best steak I have had in recent times and truly the quality that you would find in Argentina. Don’t miss the mollejas - they are perfect as a starter and go well with a Malbec - April 2007
Jean-GeorgesThe lunch menu is really a good deal to taste the food of Chef Vongerichten. Indulge! - February 2003
Luna (Italian) You may well meet a mafiosi or two at La Luna! The whole in the window made by a bullet that killed one of them is still there. And the picture of Rudy Giuliani too…Ah yes, the home-made pasta is spectacular! - June 2001
La Mirabelle: ah, an absolutely fantastic place on 86th and Columbus where the sweetbreads, the liver, the soup and a simple roquefort/endives salad will knock your socks off! The owners are very welcoming, the atmosphere very pleasant, and if you are lucky, one of the waitresses may sing an Edith Piaf classic, without killing the ambiance! - May 2008
Mitali (Indian)
Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe
Persepolis (Iranian) Now that my favorite Afghan place is gone, Persepolis is a good proxy. Even though the kebabs and the rice are good, they are not surprising - September 2003
Rock Center Cafe (@ Rockefeller Plaza)
Spice Market (Fusion)The best. I still remember the monkfish, a few years after. It was excellent, surprising and unusual. In the meat-packing district - October 2003
Yuka (Japanese) Who could miss their sushis a gogo? - April 2007
